The mission of the Fayette County Colon Cancer Network (FCCCN) is quite simple,we are here to raise awareness of the importance of early colorectal screening. We are proud that 90% of all the money we raise towards colon cancer awareness goes straight back into the community from which it came, as we believe it should. All organizers are non-paid volunteers and devote countless hours nurturing its operations. Our newest endeavor is spreading the word via the world-wide-web through our new website. We strive to make information gathering less hassling for people. Cause lets face it, we all Google. We want lots of information at people's fingertips, so they can make educated decisions about their health and well-being.
Our History
The two principle founders are Survivors, Kathy Rafail, president, diagnosed in 1999 and Chef Joe Carei, vice president, a few years later. They were both much younger than age 50, the recommended age to be screened. Kathy at 46 and Joe at 34 survived with the help of family, friends, and wonderful doctors. Theirs, as well as the stories of others, are detailed in this website. Not all colorectal cancer stories have happy endings, but Joe and Kathy were lucky. Already friends and having shared stories and support, Joe approached Kathy and her husband Rick about raising money for colon cancer awareness. From their humble life stories came the organization, an informational video that can be viewed on this website, and much more.
Our promise is to keep adding to the content, to enlist others to our cause, and to spread the message of early screening. The original goal was to focus in our local community because of our limited resources. However, with the reach of the internet and the national scope of this issue, the website is accessible by locals and millions nationwide equally.
We invite you to become engaged within the site. Hopefully, you will benefit from it and you will be willing to share your experience with us. Like Kathy, Joe, and all of us involved with the FCCCN, your story will benefit so many others as we all have done. We are a nonprofit and are not selling anything. We are not medical professionals, although we have invited several to contribute their thoughts, as the content of this site displays. We are just appreciative people trying to help in our own way those affected by colorectal cancer. Please feel free to visit our site and thank you for your concern.
